Butte HEART is an organization recently formed out of concern for the people of Afghanistan, many of whom were so suddenly forced to flee their country last August with no place to go. Our initial effort focused on securing housing and support to Afghan families that would choose to live in Butte under their current designation of Humanitarian Parolees. Now that families and individuals have been resettled across the country, this special designation is coming to an end.
Because the community of Butte has shown immense support for the resettling of refugees, Butte HEART will continue working to make our town a welcoming place for those fleeing conflict and persecution across the globe. Thank you to all the volunteers and those who have made donations who are helping realize this goal.
Butte HEART is currently working with state and national agencies to coordinate the continued effort to resettle refugees in Butte by becoming a Community Partner with the International Rescue Committee. Through the IRC, HEART expects to welcome several families from Afghanistan this spring. Housing has been secured but donations and volunteers are always needed.
